Meet David:
I'd been on the look out for plans to build my own indoor sauna for a while.
Unsure where to start, I did the usual: I ask google all about Sauna benches, aluminum vapor barriers and where to start!
Think-Longer was super helpful!
When started to feel the aches and pains of his age more and more every day, until he got one of those free day passes at a local gym.
With nothing better to do, he thought he’d give it a go.
It turns out, he wasn't that big a fan of the gym itself, but he enjoyed the sauna so much that it became his new favourite place to go. When he discovered how beneficial it was for his health he was addicted.
He wanted to be able to have that feeling every day, but with the global pandemic the gym shut down.
David took this opportunity to build his own sauna from scratch at home, and now, even though the gym's open again, he can experience the life-giving wonders of the sauna without leaving home.

The short answer: No.
If you’re building a DIY Barrel Sauna the unique interface of each timber stave is enough to seal the sauna from the elements.
Think-Longers unique design ensures external moisture will not leak in as happens with more traditional barrel sauna designs.
Most barrel saunas have a single bench on each side of the barrel.
Because of the circular design, there is no capacity for upper benches to be installed.
Barrel Saunas are a single timber stave thickness. Therefore, the interior walls are the opposite face of the exterior walls.
If you’ve been looking for a great DIY project, have basic wood working tools and an understanding of health and safety, this project is for you.

One of the many advantages of outdoor barrel saunas, aside from the health benefits is they are much cheaper than tranditional saunas. Whilst cheap barrel saunas can have challenges with ventilation, struggling to achieve the ‘toes above stove’ principle and much lower volume, the price point and speed to heat makes them a fantastic choice for many.
A quality DIY Cedar Barrel Sauna is a brilliant sauna when designed and built correctly.
