Meet David:

David started to feel the aches and pains of his age more and more every day, until he got one of those free day passes at a local gym.

With nothing better to do, he thought he’d give it a go.

It turns out, he wasn't that big a fan of the gym itself, but he enjoyed the sauna so much that it became his new favourite place to go. When he discovered how beneficial it was for his health he was addicted.

He wanted to be able to have that feeling every day, but with the global pandemic the gym shut down.

David took this opportunity to build his own sauna from scratch at home, and now, even though the gym's open again, he can experience the life-giving wonders of the sauna without leaving home.

Sauna temperatures depend largely on the heat source used.Traditionally, saunas are heated by a wood fired heater, which is still the case today in parts of Finland. Most modern saunas, however, are heated by conventional electric heaters or infrared heaters. Conventional heaters warm the air to a high temperature, ranging from 70°C to 100°C (158°F to 212°F), optimally at 80°C to 90°C (176°F to 194°F) at the level of the user’s face. The heat of the warmed air transfers to the body.Infrared heaters emit thermal radiation, which heats the body directly while also warming the surrounding air. They operate at lower temperatures than traditional saunas, at 45°C to 60°C (113°F to 140°F).
That’s a great question! Download our FREE email series to get a comprehensive answer. In the meantime, for a 2-4 person sauna, you’ll need a heat source, a thermometer and humidity sensor, a lot of timber, a range of hand tools and some know-how (that’s where we come in).

Many sauna manufacturers offer a 25 year warranty. This is commonplace because the materials used to build a barrel sauna are so durable.
